Introduction

Pediatric endocrinology is a subspecialty of pediatrics that focuses on the physiology and disorders of the endocrine system. This specialty covers a wide clinical spectrum from birth through adolescence and includes disorders of growth and puberty, diabetes, thyroid disease, disorders of calcium and bone metabolism, disorders of the adrenal gland, neuroendocrine/pituitary disorders, insulin resistance, and metabolic complications of obesity. Pediatric endocrinologists are also an important part of multidisciplinary teams that provide affirming treatment for gender identity.

Takara Stanley, MD, is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), specializing in Pediatric Endocrinology.  She completed residency training in pediatrics at MGH in 2006, and she completed pediatric endocrine fellowship at MGH in 2009.  She directs the Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship at MGH and is also active in research of hormonal and metabolic consequences of abnormal fat distribution or obesity.
